എം. പി. നാരായണപിള്ള രചിച്ച ആദ്യ നോവലാണ് പരിണാമം. നായയെ കേന്ദ്ര സ്ഥാനത്ത് നിർത്തി എഴുതിയ ആദ്യ മലയാളനോവലും ഇത് തന്നെ.[അവലംബം ആവശ്യമാണ്] 1991-ൽ നോവൽ സാഹിത്യത്തിനുള്ള കേരള സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി പുരസ്കാരത്തിന് ഈ കൃതി തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്തെങ്കിലും ഗ്രന്ഥകർത്താവ് പുരസ്കാരം സ്വീകരിക്കുകയുണ്ടായില്ല. [1] [2]
