ഒരു നിയമവിദഗ്ദ്ധനായ നാൻസി റൈറ്റിന്റെയും (നീ സ്നീഡാമിന്റെയും) ജോ ഡഗ്ലസ് ഡ്രൈവറുടെയും മകനായി ^[3][4][5] കാലിഫോർണിയയിലെ സാൻ ഡിയേഗോയിലാണ് ഡ്രൈവർ ജനിച്ചത്. ^[6] പിതാവിന്റെ കുടുംബം അർക്കൻസാസിൽ നിന്നും അമ്മയുടെ കുടുംബം ഇന്ത്യാനയിൽ നിന്നും ആണ്. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ രണ്ടാനച്ഛൻ റോഡ്‌നി ജി. റൈറ്റ് ഒരു ബാപ്റ്റിസ്റ്റ് പള്ളിയിലെ ശുശ്രൂഷകനാണ്. ^[7][8] അദ്ദേഹത്തിറെ തലമുറയിൽ ഇംഗ്ലീഷ്, ഐറിഷ്, സ്കോട്ടിഷ്, ജർമ്മൻ, ഡച്ച് എന്നീ വംശജരുണ്ട്. ^[9] ഡ്രൈവറിന് ഏഴു വയസ്സുള്ളപ്പോൾ, തന്റെ മൂത്ത സഹോദരിയോടും അമ്മയോടും ഇൻഡ്യാനയിലെ മിഷാവാക്കയിലേക്ക് താമസം മാറി. 2001-ൽ ബിരുദം നേടാനായി മിഷാവാക്ക ഹൈസ്കൂളിൽ ചേർന്നു.^[10][11] ജ്ഞാനസ്‌നാനം എടുത്തു മതപരമായി വളർന്ന ഡ്രൈവർ പള്ളിയിലെ ഗായകസംഘത്തിൽ പാടിയിരുന്നു.^[12]
