കരീബിയൻ

അറ്റ്ലാന്റിക് സമുദ്രത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായ കരീബിയൻ കടലും അതിലെ ദ്വീപസമൂഹങ്ങളും ചേർന്ന ഭൂപ്രദേശമാണ് കരീബിയൻ (Caribbean). ഇവിടത്തെ ജനതയെ കരീബിയൻ ജനത എന്ന് വിളിക്കുന്നു.

വെസ്റ്റ് ഇൻഡീസ് അഥവാ വിൻഡീസ് എന്നറീയപ്പെടുന്ന രാജ്യങ്ങളുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിൽ കരീബിയൻ ദ്വീപുകളെ കൂടാതെ ബെലിസ്, ഗയാന, സുരിനാം എന്നീ രാജ്യങ്ങളെയും ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.

ഭൂമിശാസ്ത്രം

മെക്സിക്കോ ഉൾക്കടലിനും വടക്കേ അമേരിക്ക ക്കും തെക്ക് കിഴക്കായിട്ടാണു ഈ ദ്വീപുകൾ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. ഈ ദ്വീപുകളിൽ ഭൂരിഭാഗവും കരീബിയൻ ഫലകത്തിലാണുള്ളത്.700 ഓളം ദ്വീപുകൾ ,ചെറുദ്വീപുകൾ,പവിഴമണൽ ദ്വീപുകൾ(Cay),പവിഴപ്പാറകൾ തുടങ്ങിയവ ഈ ദ്വീപ സമൂഹങ്ങളിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു . ^[3]
