Врвки претставуваат поводници со одредена должина кои се ставаат низ посебни дупчиња во обувките за да се овозможи нивното затегање на нозете. Доколку врвките во обувките ги нема, обувката не би се задржувала на своето место.
Врвките широко биле прифатени дури во XX век. Дотогаш се носеле обувки без врвки, кои се затегнувале со помош на разни спојки. Првите споменувања на врвки потикнуваат уште од 13 век. Тогаш врвките се применувале за затегнување на облека на чии краеви стоеле тврди завршетоци во облик на лешници. Веќе во 15 век, познатиот морепловец Кристифор Колумбо успешно тргувал со врвки со бакарни и златни завршетоци. Поминало дури пет века од моментот кога биле измислени врвките до денот кога се појавиле на обувките.
Не е познато кој се сетил да ги искористи врвките за обувки, но се знае дека на 27 март 1790 година, по грегоријанскиот календар, во Англија за првпат свечано се официјализирани кожни врвки со железни завршетоци кои овозможуваат полесно спроведување низ дупчињата и кои го спречуваат случајното уништување на врвките.[1]
