Asaru stacija atklāta reizē ar Jūrmalas dzelzceļa līniju, 1877. gadā. Tā sākotnēji bija pilnvērtīga dzelzceļa stacija ar pārmijām, kravas pārkraušanas rampu un lokomotīvju griezuli. 20. gadsimta sākumā Asaru stacijā pasažieru vilciena sastāvam piekabinājuši vagonu ar zemeņu kastēm pārdošanai Pēterburgā.
Senākā stacijas ēka gājusi bojā Pirmā pasaules kara laikā; jaunā uzbūvēta 1926. gadā un saglabājusies līdz mūsdienām. Pēc Asaru II (tagadējās Vaivaru) pieturas atklāšanas stacija pārdēvēta par Asariem I, šis nosaukums pastāvējis līdz 1938. gadam.[4] Stacijas ēkas atklātās nojumes konstrukcijā izmantotas šaursliežu dzelzceļa sliedes.[5]
Asaru stacija izremontēta 1999. gadā un ir valsts aizsargājams kultūras piemineklis.[6] Kravas rampa saglabājusies līdz mūsdienām, tā atrodas Tukuma virziena perona malā.
