Lepene (latīņu: castrum Lepene) bija letgaļu Jersikas valsts jeb Letijas daļa, kas pieminēta 1211. gada Jersikas dalīšanas un 1213. gada zemju pārdales dokumentos. Citos dokumentos pieminēta kā Lepone (1255) vai kā "tā sauktā Lepenes zeme" (terra dicta Lepen, 1348). Jadomā, ka Lepenes pilsnovads atradies uz austrumiem no Gerdenes pilsnovada starp Līvāniem un Lubānu (vācu: Lubahn), kur atrodami vairāki vietvārdi ar līdzīgu skanējumu.
Augusts Bīlenšteins uzskatīja, ka Jersikas ķēniņam pakļautā Lepenes pils atradās Liepkalnā (tagadējā Aizkraukles novada Iršu pagastā),[1] tomēr 13. gadsimtā Liepkalns ticamāk atradās nevis Jersikas, bet gan Kokneses valsts teritorijā.
Pēc cita uzskata Lepene bija viens senākajiem Līvānu (vēlāk dēvēti par Limehnen, Libenen, Livenen) nosaukumam.[2] Arī Ernests Brastiņš domāja, ka Lepenei drīzāk bijis jāatrodas starp Krustpili un Jersiku.
Heinrihs Lākmanis pieminēja, ka tikpat labi Lepeni varētu meklēt pie mūsdienu Lipuškiem Līvānu novada Sutru pagastā,[3] Ē.Mugurēvičs 1965. gadā rakstīja, ka Lepenes pils atrašanās vieta varētu būt pie Rēznas ezera,[4] kur Mākoņkalna pagastā atrodas Ļipušku ciems.
