Pašto kodas – raidžių ir skaičių grupė, suteikiama pašto adresui ar gretimų adresų grupei, palengvinanti pašto siuntų paskirstymą.
SSRS buvo vadinami „pašto indeksas“ (rus. Почтовый индекс). Kai kuriose šalyse angliškai vadinama „postal code“, „post code“, „postcode“, „ZIP code (Zone Improvement Plan)“.
Pirmąją pašto kodų sistemą įdiegė Vokietija 1941 m. 1959 m. jos pavyzdžiu pasekė Jungtinė Karalystė, 1963 m. JAV.
Lietuvoje pašto kodai pradėti taikyti 1967 m., kai juos įvedė SSRS. Ši sistema nedavė naudos, kol nebuvo automatizuotas pašto siuntų skirstymas. SSRS vadinami pašto indeksai buvo sudaryti iš 6 skaitmenų ir buvo suteikiami pašto skyriams bei kai kurioms įmonėms. Kodo struktūra buvo XXXYYY, kur XXX – miesto kodas, YYY – pašto skyrius. YYY vietoje „000“ reiškė to miesto centrinį paštą. Didžiausiems miestams buvo suteikta po kelis XXX kodus. Vilniaus centrinis paštas: 232000, Kauno centrinis paštas: 233000. Lietuvai atgavus nepriklausomybę buvo atmesti pirmieji du skaitmenys paliekant keturženklius kodus. Rusijoje išliko senieji SSRS kodai.
Nuo 2004 m. sausio 1 d. įsigaliojo nauji penkiaženkliai pašto kodai, suteikiami mažesnei adresatų grupei.
2005 m. vasario mėn. 117 valstybių, Tarptautinės pašto sąjungos narių, sutarė įvesti vieningą pašto kodų sistemą, pagal kurią savo kodą turi ne tik valstybė, miestas ir jo rajonas, kaip anksčiau, bet ir gatvė, ir net konkretus namas.
Stambieji pašto klientai, kaip teismai, ministerijos, didžiosios įmonės, turi atskirą pašto kodą.
Pašto kodas susideda iš valstybės dviejų raidžių prefikso pagal ISO 3166-1 ir skaitmeninio indekso, reiškiančio mažesnius rūšiavimo lygmenis.
Yra keturios pašto kodų grupės:
Pašto kodas susideda iš Lietuvos kodo LT ir nuo jo brūkšneliu atskirtų penkių skaitmenų.
Pavyzdžiui, Statistikos departamento pašto kodas: „LT-01500“.
