Pergamentas – plona medžiaga, pagaminta iš nukalkintos, išplautos, išdžiovintos ir be plaukų gyvulių odos. Pergamentas, iki popieriaus paplitimo, buvo naudojamas tekstui užrašyti ir išsaugoti. Pergamento pavadinimas kilo iš antikinio Mažosios Azijos Pergamo miesto pavadinimo, kuriame ši medžiaga buvo išrasta II amžiuje pr. m. e. Pergamo mieste pergamentas buvo specialiai šlifuojamas, balinamas chlorkalkėmis, įtrinamas kreida ir pemza. Dažniausiai pergamentas gamintas iš veršelių, ėriukų, ožiukų, kiaulių, buivolų odos. Pergamentas yra labai plonas, stiprus plėšiant. Iš pergamento gaminami būgnai ir kiti muzikos instrumentai, audimo staklių detalės, kiti dirbiniai.[1]
