Saxum arenaceum[1] vel cos[2] est saxum sedimentarium, e granis minoribus (usque ad 2 mm diametro) ferrumine aliquo minerali concretis, compositum.
E quarzo, spato, mica, glauconite plerumque constat; qua de causa saxa arenacea in quarzina, spatina, galuconitina dividuntur. Alia mineralia admixta rariora sunt, ut magnetites, ilmenites, granatum etc. Ferrumen naturale saxorum arenaceorum variatur: argillosum (caolinites) vel calcosum (calcites, dolomites), e silicis vel ferri compositis factum etc.
Non solum ut caementa vel rudus, sed saepissime decorationis causa aliisque modis saxa arenacea usurpantur.
Quartzites est saxum arenaceum metamorphicum.
