Gesneriaceae (nomen a Ludovico Richard et Antonio Jussieu anno 1816 statutum)[1] sunt familia plantarum florentium ordinis Lamialium quae in 150 generibus et 3200 specierum in tropicis Mundi Veteris et Mundi Novi regionibus endemicis consistit, et in paucis generibus speciebusque in regionibus temperatis. Multis speciebus sunt flores colorati et speciosi, atque plantae ornamentales excoluntur.
Nomen familiare est in genere Gesneria conditum, quod Conradum Gesnerum humanistam Helveticum honorat.
