Eumalacostraca sunt subclassis crustaceorum, paene omnia malacostraca viva comprehendens, circa 40000 specierum descriptas.[1] Reliquae subclasses sunt Phyllocarida et fortasse Stomatopoda subclassis Hoplocaridorum.[2]

Eumalacostracis sunt undeviginti segmenta (quinque cephalica, octo thoracica, sex abdominalia). Appendices thoracicae artus habent et natando ambulandoque adhibentur. Communis auctor generis carapacium? habuisse putatur, quod plurimae species vivae habent, sed in nonnullis gregibus amissum est.

Taxinomia

Martin et Davis sequentem eumalacostracorum vivorum classificationem proposuerunt, ad quam ordines exstincti additi sunt, a signo † notati.[2]

Grex a Carolo Grobben primum descriptus[3] Stomatopoda comprehendit, et aliqui scientes hodierni hac definitione iam utuntur. Hic autem commentarius Martin et Davis sequitur, Stomatopodis exclusis, quae in sua subclassi, Hoplocaridis, describuntur.
