Chānus[1], sive chan[2], titulus apud Mongolus qui plus minus vel idem est ac imperator. Figura prisca khāghān fuisse videtur, sed ob linguarum mutationes khāān facta est. Notissimus chanus fortasse est Cingis Chan, Mongolicus imperator.
Prior autem forma perstitit, nempe khāqān quae habetur esse titulus alius et maioris dignitatis (fortasse Chanus Chanorum?), unde figura Latina chagānus, khagānus[3] (Graece χαγα̑νος).
