Brahman est singula anima, quae universum pervadit in philosophia Hinduismi et Advaita Vedanta et refertur etiam sicut "illud absolutum." Non confundendum est cum Brahma, primo Trimurti membro.
Notio initio in Vedis "verbum sacrum" vel "formula sacra" valens[1] ibi et „vis sacra“ significare coepit.[2] Ab Upanishadis verbum Brahman etiam sensu "absoluti", id est illius, quod mutari nequit, in usum venit, significatione originali („verbum sacrum“) retinente.[3]
