Scriba[1] est qui leges, acta, rationes, vel aliud quidvis civitatis aut magistratus, aut principis nomine et iussu perscribit. In lingua antiqua scriba praesertim scriptorem publicum significat; scriptor autem privatus scriba librarius vel tantum librarius appellatur.
Scribae muneribus magni momenti ante prelum typographicum inventum fungebantur, et adhuc in societatibus plerumque agrammatis funguntur.
