Liber regum[1] (Persice شاهنامه, Šāhnāmah) est carmen epicum in lingua Persica a Firdausī anno circiter 1011 completum; qui ante 35 annos aulam petiverat principis Maḥmūd-i Ghaznavī. Princeps continuare iussit carmen quoddam historicum de imperatoribus et regibus antiquis Persarum, nuper a Daqīqī inceptum et 2 000 versuum comprehendens. Princeps dicitur mercedem promisisse ob mille versus mille aureum, sed anno 1011, carmine iam ad numerum 120 000 versuum extenso, conventum renegavisse; poëtam igitur, mercedem argenteum pro aureum despuentem, iratum ab aula exivisse.
