Dorcas[1] (-adis, f.; Graece: δορκάς) est nomen commune quo indicetur omne fere animal familiae Bovidarum, subfamiliis Bovinarum et Caprinarum exceptis. Eodem sensu saepe dicitur antilope et gazella, quae proprie sint nomina generis. Dorcades sunt mammalia ruminantia cornigera oriunda in desertis, savannis, et virectis Africae et Asiae. In gregibus migrant, herbas et folia tenuia pascentes.

Apud Graecos et Romanos antiquos dorcas Gazellam dorcadem significabat, et fortasse etiam capream (Capreolum capreolum), sed Christianus Hünemörder dicit dubium esse, an δορκάς (in Euripidis Bacchis 699 et Xenophontis Cyropaedia 1.4.7) et dorcas (in Martialis Epigrammatis 13.99) capream, nec gazellam, significet.
