연혁

1934년 6월 27일 쁘리디 파놈용에 의해 쭐랄롱꼰 대학교 다음으로 두 번째로 정식 국립대학이 되었다. 타 분야 학과가 생기기 전의 예전 명칭은 법정치대학(태국어: มหาวิทยาลัยวิชาธรรมศาสตร์และการเมือง)이었다. 탐마삿 대학교는 학생운동의 전통이 강하여 1976년 10월 6일에 벌어진 탐마삿 대학교의 학살과 같이 태국 정치사 속에서 주요 사건의 무대가 되기도 했다.

'탐마삿'이라는 이름에 걸맞게 법학계열이 핵심적인 지위를 차지하며, 법학 분야 및 상대적으로 초기에 개설된 정치학, 인문학, 사회과학 등의 학과에서는 태국 내에서 최고의 위치에 있다. 이들 학과 외에도 1980년대에 이공계 분야의 대학이 설치되었다.

2005년부터 현재까지 QS University Ranking에서 꾸준히 300-500위의 랭크되고있다. 아시아 지역에서는 항상 60위권 안팎으로 랭크되고있다. 태국에서는 쭐랄롱꼰 대학교 다음으로 좋은 대학교로 평가받고있다. 특히 Liberal Arts, Political Science, 그리고 International Relations 분야에서는 태국의 최고의 위치에 있으며, 매년 QS Uiversity Ranking에서 100위권 안팎에 랭크되고있다.

국제학부 (International Program Offering)

현재 탐마삿대학교에서는 11개의 국제학부과정을 제공하고있으며 전수업이 영어로 진행된다. 수업의 80% 이상은 영어권나라에서온 교수님들이 수업을 진행하고있다. 그러나 신설된지 아직 20여년이 되지 않았으며, 학부로 입학하는 외국인학생의 비율은 극히 소수다. 대부분의 외국인학생은 교환학생프로그램으로 세계각지에서온 학생들이 대다수이다.
