来歴

1927年、ニューヨーク・ブルックリン区生まれ。16歳のころに第二次世界大戦で出兵し、欧州戦線で服務した^[1]。戦後の1949年頃から俳優としてのキャリアをスタートさせ、ギャング映画や戦争映画などのジャンルに数多く出演。特に知られる出演作は、1980年の映画『シャイニング』で、ジャック・ニコルソン演じる主人公の前に現れるホテルのバーテンダー役や、1982年の映画『ブレードランナー』のタイレル博士役など。キューブリック監督の作品には『現金に体を張れ』と『突撃』もあわせ、これまで3作品へ出演した。1998年をもって、事実上俳優業から引退した。

2022年6月27日に死去^[2]。94歳没。
