È una serie drammatica ambientata a Londra tra il 1900 e il 1935 e incentrata sulle vicende della cuoca Louisa Trotter che lavora al Bentinck Hotel di Duke Street, Marylebone. La storia è vagamente basata sulla vita di Rosa Lewis, la "Duchessa di Jermyn Street", che gestiva l'Hotel Cavendish a Londra.
