Klöpp var tómthúsbýli sem byggðist út úr landi bæjarins Arnarhóls árið 1838. Býlið stóð á hárri klöpp, sem það dró nafn sitt af. Vestan við bæinn var Klapparvör, sem þótti gott útræði.
Maður að nafni Eyjólfur Þorkelsson reisti fyrsta bæinn á Klöpp. Sonur hans, Níels Eyjólfsson, var ábúandi þar um áratuga skeið ásamt Helgu konu sinni. Þau ræktuðu mikla kálgarða við bæinn suðvestanverðan. Þar reis síðar Trésmiðjan Völundur. Síðasta íbúðarhúsið á Klöpp var rifið árið 1931, þremur árum fyrr hafði fyrirtækið British Petroleum Company (síðar Olís) tekið í notkun olíustöð sína framan á klöppinni.
Þann 21. október árið 1954 opnaði Olíuverslun Íslands nýja bensínstöð og smurstöð á Klöpp. [1] Hún var talin sú stærsta og fullkomnasta á landinu, þar sem hægt var að smyrja fjórar bifreiðar í einu. Það var einnig þvottaplan fyrir tuttugu bíla og stór og fullkomin ryksuga. Slagorð smurstöðvarinnar var: Á Klöpp er allt klappað og klárt.
Gatan Klapparstígur heitir eftir bænum Klöpp.
