Prefektur Miyagi (宮城県 , Miyagi-ken) adalah sebuah prefektur yang terletak di wilayah Tōhoku, di bagian utara Pulau Honshu, Jepang.[1] Ibu kota prefektur ini adalah Sendai.[2] Prefektur Miyagi memiliki jumlah penduduk sebesar 2.265.724 jiwa (per 1 Agustus 2023) dan memiliki luas wilayah sebesar 7.282,22 km² (2.811,68 mil²). Prefektur Miyagi berbatasan dengan Prefektur Iwate di sebelah utara, Prefektur Yamagata di sebelah barat, dan Prefektur Fukushima di sebelah selatan.

Kota Sendai adalah ibu kota sekaligus kota terbesar di Prefektur Miyagi, dengan kota-kota besar lainnya antara lain Ishinomaki, Ōsaki, dan Tome.[3] Prefektur Miyagi terletak di wilayah pesisir Samudra Pasifik dan berbatasan di bagian barat dengan pegunungan terpanjang di Jepang yaitu Pegunungan Ōu. Sebesar 24% dari total area prefektur ini ditetapkan sebagai taman nasional. Prefektur Miyagi adalah rumah bagi Kepulauan Matsushima, yang merupakan sekelompok pulau yang yang menjadi salah satu dari Tiga Pemandangan Jepang, dan berlokasi di dekat kota Matsushima.
Prefektur Miyagi sebelumnya merupakan bagian dari Provinsi Mutsu.[4] Provinsi Mutsu adalah provinsi tua yang berada di bagian utara Honshu, provinsi ini merupakan salah satu provinsi terakhir yang dibentuk karena tanah diambil dari suku Emishi asli, dan juga menjadi yang terbesar saat perluasan ke utara. Ibu kota kuno dari provinsi mutsu adalah berada di Taga-jō di Prefektur Miyagi saat ini.
Pada bulan ketiga tahun kedua era Wadō (tahun 709), terjadi pemberontakan terhadap otoritas pemerintah di Provinsi Mutsu dan di dekat Provinsi Echigo. Pasukan segera dikirim untuk menundukkan pemberontakan tersebut.[5]
Pada era Wado tahun ke-5 (tahun 712), tanah Provinsi Mutsu secara administratif dipisahkan dari Provinsi Dewa. Kaisar Wanita Gemmei dari Daijō-kan selanjutnya mengorganisasi perubahan kadaster lainnya dalam peta provinsi pada periode Nara, seperti pada tahun berikutnya ketika Provinsi Mimasaka dipisahkan dari Provinsi Bizen; Provinsi Hyūga dipisahkan dari Provinsi Ōsumi; dan Provinsi Tamba dipisahkan dari Provinsi Tango.[5]
Selama periode Sengoku berbagai klan memerintah berbagai bagian provinsi. Klan Uesugi memiliki kota kastel di Wakamatsu di selatan, klan Nanbu di Morioka di utara, dan Date Masamune, sekutu dekat Klan Tokugawa, mendirikan Sendai, yang sekarang menjadi kota terbesar di wilayah Tōhoku.
Pada periode Meiji, empat provinsi baru terbentuk dari bagian Mutsu: Provinsi Rikuchū, Provinsi Rikuzen, Provinsi Iwaki, dan Provinsi Iwashiro.
Date Masamune membangun sebuah kastel di Sendai sebagai tempat kediamannya untuk memerintah Mutsu. Pada tahun 1871, Prefektur Sendai dibentuk. Lalu berganti nama menjadi prefektur Miyagi pada tahun berikutnya.
Pada tanggal 11 Maret 2011, gempa berkekuatan 9,0 skala richter dan tsunami besar menghantam Prefektur Miyagi, menyebabkan kerusakan besar pada daerah tersebut.[6] Tsunami tersebut diperkirakan mencapai ketinggian sekitar 10 meter di Prefektur Miyagi.[7]
Pada 7 April 2011, gempa berkekuatan 7,4 SR melanda pantai Miyagi, Jepang. Pekerja kemudian dievakuasi dari fasilitas nuklir Fukushima Daiichi yang bermasalah di dekatnya sekali lagi ketika peringatan tsunami dikeluarkan untuk. Warga disuruh mengungsi ke bagian yang lebih aman pada saat itu.
Petugas dari Survei Geologi AS kemudian menurunkan besarnya menjadi 7,1 SR dari 7,4 SR.[8]
Pada 2013, Putra Mahkota Naruhito dan Putri Mahkota Masako mengunjungi prefektur untuk melihat kemajuan sejak tsunami.[9]
Prefektur Miyagi berada di bagian tengah Tōhoku, menghadap langsung ke Samudra Pasifik, dan memiliki kota terbesar di Tōhoku yaitu Sendai. Terdapat pegunungan tinggi yang menjulang di barat dan sepanjang pantai timur laut, namun dataran di sekitar Sendai cukup luas.
Matsushima dikenal sebagai salah satu dari tiga tempat dengan pemandangan paling indah di Jepang, dengan teluk yang penuh dengan 260 pulau kecil yang tertutup oleh hutan pinus.
Pada tanggal 31 Maret 2019, 24% dari total luas wilayah prefektur ditetapkan sebagai Taman Nasional, yaitu Taman Nasional Sanriku Fukkō; Taman Nasional Semu Kurikoma dan Zaō; Serta Taman Nasional Prefektural Abukuma Keikoku, Asahiyama, Funagata Renpo, Futakuchi Kyōkoku, Kenjōsan Mangokuura, Kesennuma, Matsushima, dan Zaō Kōgen.

Meskipun Miyagi memiliki hasil yang banyak di bidang perikanan dan pertanian, yang banyak menghasilkan beras dan ternak, namun perekonomian di Prefektur Miyagi didominasi oleh industri manufaktur di sekitar Sendai, terutama elektronik, peralatan, dan pengolahan makanan.
Pada Maret 2011, prefektur ini menghasilkan 4,7% beras, 23% tiram, dan 15,9% sauri di Jepang.[10]
Pada Juli 2011, Pemerintah Jepang memutuskan untuk melarang semua pengiriman sapi potong dari Prefektur Miyagi timur laut karena kekhawatiran akan kontaminasi radioaktif.[11]
