O Monte Penide é un macizo montañoso de 450 metros de altura que se atopa no concello pontevedrés de Redondela[1]. O complexo do monte Penide atópase nas elevacións montañosas situadas no extremo suroeste do concello, nas parroquias de Negros, Trasmañó e Cedeira.
No seu cumio posúe un conxunto arqueolóxico conformado por petróglifos, mámoas, gravados rupestres e outros elementos arqueolóxicos que converten a este conxunto na necrópole con máis sitios arqueolóxicos da provincia de Pontevedra[2]. Os primeiros deles datados na era paleolítica inferior, no período do plistoceno.[3]
Os túmulos son construcións de pedra e terras baixo as que as culturas prehistóricas enterraban os seus mortos. Estas construcións megalíticas foron moi estendidas na costa atlántica galega durante o neolítico até a idade de Bronce. Entre os túmulos ou mámoas máis importantes destacan:[3]
Ademais do fenómeno tumulario, no monte Penide as culturas que alí se desenvolveron a creación de petróglifo, unhas representacións gráficas gravadas nas rochas ou pedras. No monte Penide están os seguintes petróglifos:[3]
