O funk é un estilo musical afroamericano. Naceu nos 60 con intérpretes coma James Brown, Sly and the Family Stone e The Meters, e emerxeu coma xénero a finais desa década[1]. O funk caracterízase por ter ritmos bailables moi sincopados que enfatizan o primeiro tempo de cada compás, liñas de baixo prominentes, unha guitarra rítmica moi distintiva cun son afiado, voces ó estilo da música soul, seccións de vento poderosas e orientadas ó ritmo, unha grande énfase na percusión, incluíndo adoito diversos tambores ademais da batería, e influencias africanas e do jazz. O funky é, xunto co rock e o hip hop unha das máis grandes influencias da música moderna.
O funk foi a principal influencia no desenvolvemento da música disco e, máis tarde, do hip hop.
