Comezou a súa carreira como extra en 1924, despois de varias ocupacións, entre as cales a teatral, mais só salientou cando ingresou na MGM, en 1931. Clark Gable, co seu estilo galán viril, romántico e cínico volveuse nunha estrela mundial, polo que ficou coñecido polo «rei».

Recibiu o Oscar pola súa participación no filme de 1934 It Happened One Night.

Vida persoal

Faleceu dun ataque de corazón. Deixou un único fillo chamado John Clark Gable, que naceu o 20 de marzo de 1961, 5 meses despois da súa morte.
