Sørøya (saami setentrional: Sállan) é a cuarta illa máis grande de Noruega en termos de superficie, e divídese entre os municipios de Hasvik e Hammerfest. A miúdo dise que é "unha das máis belas" das illas de Noruega.[1]

A illa está rodeada polo mar noruegués no norte e o Sørøysundet ao sur. A través do Sørøysundet hai tres illas grandes: Stjernøya, Seiland e Kvaløya. A illa de Sørøxa non ten ningún acceso mediante pontes ou túnel, soamente unha ruta regular de transbordador desde Hasvik a Øksfjord no continente. O Aeroporto de Hasvik atópase no extremo sur da illa.
O 15 de febreiro de 1945, 525 civís noruegueses foron evacuados de Sørøxa por catro destructores da Royal Navy e levados a un sitio seguro en Escocia a través de Murmansk na Unión Soviética. A operación de rescate foi denominada Operation Open Door. [Máis adiante] en febreiro e marzo a loita entre voluntarios noruegueses e soldados alemáns resultou en seis noruegueses mortos e catorce capturados, mentres que entre 30 e 100 soldados alemáns resultaron mortos.
Na segunda guerra mundial, un grupo guerrilleiro operou na illa.[2]
En 2012 a poboación era de 1092 habitantes.
