Halych ou Hálych (en ucraíno: Галич, en ruso: Га́лич; en alemán: Halytsch, Halitsch ou Galitsch;[1] en yiddish: העליטש; Halicz en polaco) é unha cidade histórica á beira do río Dnister no oeste de Ucraína. A cidade recibe o nome do Principado de Halych, a histórica provincia de Halychyna (actual Galicia na Europa do Central) e do Reino de Galicia–Volinia[2][3] do que foi capital até principios do século XIV, cando a sede dos gobernantes locais trasladouse a Lviv.

Na actualidade, Halych é unha pequena vila situada só nunha parte do territorio da antiga capital da Galicia dos Cárpatos, aínda que conserva o seu nome. Pertence ao raión de Ivano-Frankivsk (distrito) da óblast de Ivano-Frankivsk (rexión). Alberga a administración de Halych Urban Hromada, unha das Hromadas de Ucraína.[4] Halych atópase 26 km (16 mi) ao norte da capital do oblast, Ivano-Frankivsk
O topónimo "Galicia" provén do nome da cidade en latín.[5] Porén, o termo derivou a Halicz (o seu nome en polaco) e deu o seu nome á Galicia do leste de Europa. Segundo o profesor Larry Wolff da Universidade de Nova York, durante a partición de Polonia os Habsburgo o reino da Galiza ibérica inspirou en certa medida o nome centroeuropeo para dar lexitimidade histórica e crear unha identidade á nova provincia do Imperio austrohúngaro. A casa dos Austria reinara sobre o reino galego do noroeste da Península Ibérica, tomado polos Borbóns na Guerra de Sucesión e "O nome por tanto estaba dispoñíbel para eles en 1772, e servía de forma latina do antigo principado de Halych".[6]
Esta cidade foi capital do Principado de Galicia e do Principado de Galicia-Volyn até o século XIV cando o trono é trasladado a Leópolis (Lviv).
En 1994, o goberno ucraíno creou a Reserva Nacional Antiga Halych, que inclúe a actual aldea de Krylos, para preservar o patrimonio histórico-cultural.[7]
É a cidade central do raión Halych (distrito) na provincia de Ivano-Frankivsk (Іва́но-Франкі́вська о́бласть).
Está a 26 km da cidade de Ivano-Frankivsk, a capital da provincia. A poboación de Hálych estímase en 6.406 habitantes.
