D'fhreastail an Nahr al-Auja mar teorann theas Vilayet (limistéar riaracháin) Bhéiriút, le linn tréimhse dheireanach na nOtamánach.[1]
Tá ainm Araibise na habhann 'Nahr al-Auja' (an abhainn a lúbann), roinnte le Wadi Auja, sruth beag eile a sreabhann isteach chuig Ghleann na hIordáine, ó thuaidh de Ireachó. De bharr an comhtharlú sin, le linn an chéad Chogadh Domhanda thángthas ar an téarma líne an dá Auja, a thagraíonn don líne straitéiseach a nascann an dá abhainn ghleannta agus a bhí glactha ag fórsaí sluaíochta an Ghinearáil Allenby, le linn a luathghluaiseacht chun tosaigh sa bhliain 1918, i gcoinne fhórsaí na nOtamánach.
