The ethnographer would suggest a folk melody that might work with a line of Kate’s song, the arranger would come up with a harmony for it, and Kate would say yes or no. The shows were sold out in less than an hour, nine months before we went on stage. Instead of doing a tour, she staged a really elaborate show production at the Hammersmith Apollo Theater in London. People flew from all over the world to see this. The good thing about this residency is that we were able to set up the equipment, the recording gear, the microphones and everything to a level of perfection normally only possible in fine recording studios. The very elaborate surround sound house system was tuned perfectly. The whole thing was amazing. For this event, we realized that we needed to have a “no compromise” drum sound. Everyone agreed, for this we needed to use Earthworks drum mics. We used SR25s as overheads and on hi-hat, DP30/Cs on toms, SR25 on snare and SR30 on kick drum with KickPad.».

Mon allure de garçon manqué pouvait passer dans le rock, mais Kate était un ovni: incroyablement forte et, en même temps, sensuelle. When I went back, the first project was done and she was beginning the second one, though she might have had some ideas while we were working on the first record. We worked hard and, boy, we got some things done! With Fifty Words… sometimes it was just Kate playing piano and her vocal, and then the two of us together trying to construct a rhythm based on what was there now and what might be there thereafter. I’ve never done another project like it. She’s so unafraid. She’s all about the art of it. We never really talked about the concept, but I was amazed how she put this album together sonically and visually – not just the songs, but the photographs, images, themes. It’s the whole package with her, and amazing to see. And she treated me great! She always wants to make sure you’re comfortable, that you’re not tired or hungry. She took care of me the way she tried to take care of these songs.».

(en) Jordan Elgrably, «The Beirut-Paris Express: Yasmine Hamdan on Tour», sur blog.lareviewofbooks.org, : «Back in Kuwait I had started listening to a lot of English language music, western music I would say: Kate Bush and Radiohead, and I loved Chet Baker, Etna James, a lot of singers and a lot of bands.».
Eric Delhaye, «Confiné en Corée chez… la chanteuse de jazz Youn Sun Nah», sur telerama.fr, : «Parce que je suis moi-même dans un processus d’écriture, je lis les textes des autres, dans Book of Longing, de Leonard Cohen, ou How to Be Invisible, de Kate Bush.
