Balan veljekset perustivat yhtiön Albanyssa vuonna 1991.[1] Veljekset myivät yhtiön Activisionille vuonna 2005 ja lähtivät siitä vuonna 2016.[1][2]
Terminus, online-moninpelattava avaruussimulaattoripeli, voitti Independent Games Festivalin palkintoa vuonna 1999. Yhtiön kaksikko tuli tunnetuksi johtavana käsikonsolipelien tuottajana kun he kehittivät Tony Hawk’s -pelisarjan pelejä Game Boy Advancelle vuonna 2001. Siitä eteenpäin he ovat tunnettuja monien pelien kuten Spider-Manin, Spider-Man 2:n, Ultimate Spider-Manin, Crash Nitro Kartin, Jedi Knight II:n, Doom 3:n Xbox-version ja Tony Hawk’s AmericanSk8landin kehittämisestä. Vicarious Visions on kehittänyt Guitar Hero -pelisarjaa myös Nintendo DS:lle ja Wiille. Nintendo DS:lle julkaistulle Guitar Hero: On Tourille Vicarious Visions kehitti ”Guitar Gripinä” tunnetun kitaraohjaimen.
Yhtiö käytti Intrinsic Graphicsin Alchemy-pelimoottoria ja toi sen kehittäjiä yhtiöön Intrinsic Graphicsin lopetettua.[3]
10. kesäkuuta 2011 vahvistettiin että Vicarious Visions kehittää Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventuren Nintendo 3DS -versiota.[4]
Vuonna 2011 vahvistettiin että Vicarious Visions työllistää kolmea tuntematonta projektia.[5]
Tammikuussa 2021 ilmoitettiin yhtiön sulauttamisesta Blizzard Entertainmentiin,[6] josta tuli valmista vuonna 2022.[7] Studio ilmoitti asiasta Twitterissä 12. huhtikuuta 2022.[8]
