Josef Thaddeus Tvarjansky (27. maaliskuuta 1783 Goldingen, Kuurinmaa – 7. syyskuuta 1852 Helsinki) oli Suomeen muuttanut sotilaskapellimestari, joka toimi Kaartin soittokunnan ensimmäisenä kapellimestarina 1819–1852. Twarjanskyn vanhemmat olivat kaupunginmusikantti Mikael Twarjansky ja Anna Lovisa Lapieszno. Hän meni 1825 Viaporissa naimisiin Johanna Lovisa Charlotta Jahnssonin (1808–1848) kanssa.[1][2]
Helsingin opetuspataljoonaan Parolassa värvättiin 1. huhtikuuta 1819 ensimmäiset kolme musikanttia ja saman vuoden lopulla 12 hengen vahvuuteen kasvaneen soittokunnan kapellimestariksi tuli Josef Thaddeus Tvarjansky. Vuonna 1824 33-henkiseksi kasvanut soittokunta muutti sitten Parolasta Helsinkiin. Vuonna 1829 Suomen Opetustarkk'ampujapataljoonan nimeksi muuttui Henkivartioväen Suomen tarkk'ampujapataljoona ja samalla myös soittokunta sai "nuoren kaartin" arvon. Tämän jälkeen pataljoonaa soittokuntineen alettiin kutsumaan Suomen kaartiksi. Vuosina 1831-1832 Suomen kaarti osallistui soittokuntineen Puolan kapinan kukistamiseen, vuonna 1848 Suomen Kaartin soittokunta osallistui Flooran päivänä Maamme-laulun ensiesityksiin ja vuonna 1849 soittokunta osallistui Suomen kaartin mukana Unkarin kapinan kukistamiseen.[3]
