Gainsbourg on näytellyt muun muassa elokuvissa Jane Eyre – salattu rakkaus (1996), 21 grammaa (2003), The Science of Sleep (2006), I’m Not There (2007) ja Nymphomaniac (2013). Vuonna 2009 hän sai Cannesin elokuvajuhlilla parhaan naisnäyttelijän palkinnon roolisuorituksestaan Lars von Trierin elokuvassa Antichrist.[1]
Gainsbourgin vanhemmat ovat Serge Gainsbourg ja Jane Birkin.
