Yliopistonmäki (ruots. Universitetsbacken) on Turun keskustassa, I kaupunginosassa sijaitseva mäki, joka on yksi Turun seitsemästä kukkulasta. Yliopistonmäen laella sijaitsee Turun yliopiston rakennuksia, muun muassa päärakennus ja pääkirjasto.
Yliopistonmäen korkeus on 38,8 metriä merenpinnan yläpuolella.[1]
Mäki tunnettiin 1500-luvun loppupuolen asiakirjoissa nimillä Suur-Vatsela eli Mannisvuori[lähde? ], mutta pisimpään mäki on tunnettu Ryssänmäkenä. Yleisesti nimen arvellaan tulevan Turkua miehittäneiden venäläisistä sotilaista, mutta todennäköisemmin se tulee Jacob Ryss (Rydz) -nimisestä porvarista, joka omisti taloja mäellä[2][3]. Suomi–Neuvostoliitto-Seuran Turun piiritoimikunnan esityksestä Ryssänmäki nimettiin Vesilinnanmäeksi 1940-luvulla. Tämä nimi juontaa juurensa vuonna 1940 mäen laelle valmistuneesta Vesilinna-nimisestä vesitornista. Nykyisen nimensä Yliopistonmäki sai, kun Turun yliopisto siirtyi Turun kauppatorin reunalta uusiin rakennuksiinsa 1950-luvulla.[4]
Yliopistonmäellä on vielä jäänteitä Turun vanhasta tulliaitauksesta. [lähde? ] Ennen Turun paloa mäki tunnettiin paremman väen asuinalueena, jolla asui runsaasti kirkonmiehiä ja Turun Akatemian väkeä. Turun palossa tuhoutuivat mäen asuinrakennukset ja siellä sijainneet toistakymmentä tuulimyllyä.[3]
Museovirasto on määritellyt Turun yliopiston Yliopistonmäen rakennukset yhdeksi Suomen valtakunnallisesti merkittävistä rakennetuista kulttuuriympäristöistä.[5]
Varsinais-Suomen elinkeino-, liikenne- ja ympäristökeskus on suojellut Yliopistonmäen rakennuksista yliopiston päärakennuksen, Feeniks-kirjaston, luonnontieteidentalo 1:sen eli Naturan, Agoran ja Quantumin sekä lisäksi yliopiston kampuksen keskusaukion, siitä alkavan ns. promootioväylän, piha-alueet, Koskenniemenaukion ja Koskenniemenkadun portaikkoineen, sekä yhdyskäytävän[6], joka liittää yliopiston päärakennuksen luonnontieteiden taloon[7].
