Mariekeksi on pyöreä, kullanruskeaksi paistettu keksi, joka on yleensä maustettu miedosti vaniljalla. Sen muut ainesosat ovat vehnäjauho, sokeri ja kasviöljy. Keksin pintaan on pistelty reikiä ja puristettu kuvio, jossa keskellä näkyy keksin nimi ja reunaa kiertää meanderimainen tai muunlainen toistuva koristeaihe.
Mariekeksi kehitettiin Isossa-Britanniassa vuonna 1874, jolloin lontoolainen leipomo Peek Freans alkoi valmistaa niitä juhlistaakseen kuningatar Viktorian toiseksi vanhimman pojan, prinssi Alfredin avioitumista Venäjän suuriruhtinatar Maria Aleksandrovna Romanovan kanssa.[1] Morsiamen mukaan nimetystä keksistä tuli suosittu ympäri Euroopan ja monissa Brittiläisen kansainyhteisön maissa. Alkuperämaassaan Englannissa suositummaksi nousi mariekeksin muunnelma Rich tea biscuit, jota ei ole maustettu vaniljalla.
Mariekeksi sopii erityisen hyvin kastettavaksi teehen, kahviin tai maitoon. Miedon makunsa ja kiinteän koostumuksensa ansiosta sille voi laittaa marmeladia tai muuta päällystettä. Brittiläisen kulttuurin maissa suosittua on tehdä kahdesta keksistä ”voileipä” laittamalla väliin voita, Marmite-hiivauutelevitettä tai kondensoitua maitoa. Mariekeksejä käytetään myös jälkiruokien, kuten vaniljavanukkaan, lisukkeena sekä juustokakun tms. pohjataikinan valmistusaineena.
Suomessa mariekeksejä ovat valmistaneet muun muassa Hangon Keksi ja Fazer. Keksityyppiä tuodaan myös ulkomailta ainakin Kantolan- ja Rainbow X-tra -merkkisinä. Suosittu muunnelma on alapuolelta suklaalla kuorrutettu mariekeksi.[2]
Elokuvaohjaaja Ingmar Bergman kärsi kroonisista vatsavaivoista ja söi kuvauksissa usein mariekeksejä.[3]
