Ordiziako Alde Zaharraren ekialdeko sarreran dago, Gudarien etorbidean, Barrena jauregia eta Zabala jauregiaren artean dagoeen bidegurutzean. Urdanetaren aurrean, berari begira bi indigena daude, bat belauniko, buruan lumak dituztela.
Isidoro Uribesalgo aretxabaletarrak egin zuen eskultura Gipuzkoako Foru Aldundiaren enkarguz. 1904an inauguratu zen[1].
2017. eta 2020. urteetan, Carlos de Urabá kolonbiar jatorriko idazle eta dokumentalistak kanpaina bat abiarazi zuen, estatua eraisteko, eszena umiliagarria eta lotsagarria delakoan. Izan ere, Urdanetak Espainiako koroaren zerbitzura ziharduen, eta koroa horren helburu nagusia ez zen ebanjelizatzea soilik, baizik eta baita arpilatzea, lapurreta eta esklabotza ere.[2][3] 2020an, AEBetan hasi eta nazioartera zabaldutako konkistatzaile, kolonialista eta esklabo trafikatzaileen omenezko estatuen aurkako ekimenen testuinguruan abiatu zen kanpaina hori.[4]
