Tarim ibaiaren arroa (txineraz Talimupendi) arro endorreiko bat da, baita munduko handienetako bat ere. Arro honen zati handi bat Taklamakan basamortuaren zatitzat hartzen da, eta zenbait mendiz inguratua dago. Nagusiki uigurrak bizi dira bertan, baita han etniako pertsonak ere. Arroak petrolio eta gas natural depositu handiak ditu.
Zetaren Bidea Tarimen arroan sartzen da, Kashgar eta Yumen artean bi ibilbide ezberdinetan banatzen da, Taklamakanen iparraldeko eta hegoaldeko mugak jarraituz. Antzina arroan tokariera hitz egiten zen. Txinatarrek toki honen kontrola I. mendearen amaieran hartu zuten Bao Chao jenerala buru zutela.
Kusan Inperioa ibai honen arrotik hedatu zen I. mendea eta II. mendea artean, Kashgarreko erresuma ezarriz eta tokiaren kontrolagatik nomadekin eta tropa txinatarrekin lehiatuz. Brahmi hizkuntza eta budismoa sartu zituzten eta paper garrantzitsua bete zuten budismoa bide honen bidez gainontzeko Asiara hedatzean.
