Aucet on esimest koda kirjalikult mainitud aastal 1426 (Owce).[3] Sealset Auce mõisa on esimest korda kirjalikult mainitud aastal 1616. Aastal 1667 ehitati Aucesse luteri kirik.
Aastal 1889 valmis Aucet läbiv Jelgava–Mažeikiai raudtee. Esimese maailmasõja ajal, aastail 1915–1917, asus Auce lähistel lennuväli, asulas tegutses aga Saksa vägede lahingulendurite koolituskeskus (Artillerie-Fliegerschule Ost I). Linn aastast 1924. Varem asus Dobele rajoonis. Aastatel 2009–2021 oli linn Auce piirkonna keskus.
Looduskaitse all on Raiņa iela 41 valgepöögid, Raiņa iela 41 tamm, Albrekši kalmistu männid ja Lāčkalni kalmistu männid.[4]
