Pro la freneza energio, kiun li demonstris en siaj pentraĵoj, oni kromnomis lin Il Furioso. La verko de Tintoretto estas giganta: krom la pentraĵoj, li lasis plurajn antaŭskizojn. Per la patosa uzado de perspektivo kaj per la tre luma stilo, Tintoretto anticipas la barokan movadon kaj manierismon.

Ankaŭ lia filo Domenico Tintoretto estis pentristo.
