Antaŭjuĝo, en sia plej ĝenerala senco, estas juĝo rapide kaj supraĵe alprenita, sen antaŭa objektiva informiĝo.
Baze komuna al ĉiuj difinserĉoj estas tio, ke temas — kiel la vorto sugestas — pri juĝo ekzistanta antaŭ ol la supozitaĵo pruviĝas laŭ la realeco — la ebleco pri korektado per sperto estas apenaŭ donita aŭ ĝi estas malakceptata.
Ĉiuj teorioj pri antaŭjuĝoj akceptas, ke la sinteno de iu grupo rilatas al la ecaro, kiun oni pozitive aŭ negative perceptas.
Ĉiuj homoj havas antaŭjuĝojn; ili donas al ili teniĝon kaj orientiĝon en tro vasta mondo. Por orientiĝo en nia medio ni devas konstrui kategoriojn por ordigi la alvenaj informoj, tiel kategorizante iun homon ekzemple laŭ sekso, aĝo, haŭtkoloro.
Laŭ tio ni posedas perceptformojn, kiuj montras ian tendencon al stereotipado kaj antaŭjuĝ-konstruo.
Konfliktoj kondukas ne ĉe ĉiuj homoj sammezure al trafiĝemeco vid-al-vide antaŭjuĝoj.
Antaŭjuĝoj agas tamen ne nur en psikaj, sed ankaŭ en sociaj konkliktoj, kaj certe por ambaŭ partoj.
Antaŭjuĝoj estas multfoje trosimpligaj kaj ĝeneraligaj. Tamen en la ĉiutaga vivo ni elkonstruas antaŭjuĝojn apenaŭ per personaj spertoj aŭ konfliktoj kun membroj de alia grupo.
