From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *t/duŋ (“middle, navel”); cognate with the second syllable of Akha [script needed] (caˆ tah˯, “navel”), as well as perhaps Old Chinese 中 (OC *tuŋ, *tuŋs, “middle”) (STEDT).
