Etymology
Inherited from Proto-Turkic *kebde (“torso, upper part of body”);[1] cognate with Azerbaijani gövdə, Bashkir кәүҙә (kəwźə), Chuvash хӑвӑт (hăvăt), Kazakh кеуде (keude), Kyrgyz көөдөн (köödön), Turkmen göwre, Uyghur گەۋدە (gewde) and Uzbek gavda.
