Compound of X (“obscene, adult, pornographic”, adjective) +‎ video. The website sense is derived from a notional singular form of XVideos, a pornographic video-sharing website, itself named after the first etymological root and coined in 2007 by the website creator Stephane Michael Pacaud.

From X (“a social networking service”) + video. Coined in July 2023 when Twitter rebranded to X; by analogy with the above sense and the pornographic website XVideos to criticise or mock the name change.
