Inherited from Malay perak, from earlier pirak, from Proto-Malayic *pirak, from Proto-Malayo-Chamic [Term?], from Proto-Malayo-Sumbawan [Term?], from Proto-Mon-Khmer *prak, *praʔ (“silver”) origin (compare to Khmer ប្រាក់ (prak, “silver”)).
