Borrowed from Hungarian pohár or Serbo-Croatian pehar, from Old High German pehhari, from Late Latin picarium, variant of bicarium, possibly from bacarium, or from Ancient Greek βῖκος (bîkos). Compare also German Becher, Italian bicchiere, English pitcher.
