Borrowed from Turkish makat, from Arabic مَقْعَد (maqʕad, “seat”).
makata f (diminutive makatka)
From ma- + kata, a variant of katha. However, the root is pronounced with an ultimate stress. The word was introduced in the early 20th century. Doublet of makatha. Compare Malay kata.
