From Middle Low German legelichēt (“situation”), form the adjective legelik (“situated”). Compare Middle Low German legenhēt (“situation, opportunity”) (whence Swedish lägenhet (“apartment”)) from legen (“lying”) and German Gelegenheit (“opportunity, facilities, accommodation”) from gelegen (“lying”).
