Etymology
Inherited from Ottoman Turkish ایستك (istek, “wish, desire”), from Proto-Turkic *īŕteg,[1] a development of *īŕte- (“to seek, to pursue”), whence istemek (“to wish, desire”). Cognate with Kyrgyz издөө (izdöö), Southern Altai истеер (isteer) and Uyghur ئىستەك (istek).
