From Arabic اِحْتِيَاط (iḥtiyāṭ), from صَلَاة الِاحْتِيَاط (ṣalāt al-iḥtiyāṭ)

- (Islam) a precaution taken in determining prayer times by adding or subtracting time so as not to precede the start of the prayer time and not to exceed the end of the prayer time

From Ottoman Turkish احتیاط (ihtiyat), from Arabic اِحْتِيَاط (iḥtiyāṭ), verbal noun of اِحْتَاطَ (iḥtāṭa, “to be careful, to take precautions”).
