Etymology
Possibly ultimately from Sanskrit हृदय (hṛdaya, “soul, mind, spirit”, literally “heart”), according to Zorc (1982). Compare Indonesian daya, Balinese ᬋᬤᬬ (redaya), Javanese ꦢꦿꦶꦪ (driya) / ꦮꦂꦢꦪ (wardaya), Old Javanese ḥṛdaya (“mind”), and Pali hadaya (“feeling”, literally “heart”). Many sources say it is from Cebuano haraya, but Zorc (1982) does not believe so.
