happe
From Middle French happe, from Old French happe, of uncertain origin. Perhaps a derivative of Old French happer (“to seize quickly, snap up”). Alternatively, perhaps from Frankish *happā (“knife, billhook, sickle”) a variant of *happjā (“axe”), related to Old High German happa (modern German Hippe).
