Borrowed from Swahili ngamia (“camel”), from Arabic جَمَل (jamal, “camel”), from Proto-West Semitic *gamal- (“camel”). Cognate with Rwanda-Rundi ingamiya (“camel”). Doublet of engamira (“camel”).
